Embassy & Consular Legalization

Legalization by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy or consulate of the destination country.

When the destination country is not a party to the Apostille Convention – or has objected to Morocco's accession – your documents must go through consular legalization. This is a chain of certifications: typically the issuing authority or a legalized signature, then the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the embassy or consulate of the destination country in Morocco. Some countries add a final step at their own foreign ministry after arrival.

Each embassy has its own rules, appointment system, fees and translation requirements. ABC Translation handles the whole chain for you, including the certified translation into the language the embassy requires, and keeps you informed at each step. The same service is available in reverse for foreign documents that must be legalized for use in Morocco by a Moroccan embassy or consulate abroad.

Frequently asked questions

When do I need consular legalization instead of an apostille?

When the destination country is not a member of the Apostille Convention (for example the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait or Egypt), or when it has objected to Morocco's accession, as Germany has. We confirm the correct procedure for your document and country.

Do I need to come to the embassy myself?

In most cases no. We submit and collect documents on your behalf. A few embassies require the applicant in person for specific documents – we tell you in advance.

Does the embassy also require a translation?

Very often yes: many embassies only legalize documents accompanied by a sworn translation into their official language. We prepare it as part of the same file.
